Jean Marcellin is deeply touched for your interest in his Art.
Born in Paris (France), Jean Marcellin is a self-taught and a self representing French Artist, who has been drawing and painting since early childhood when his Mother saw his interest for Art and undoubtedly encouraged him for the succeeding years of his life.
For several years in Paris, his favorite passion was to hang around artists in the heart of “Montmartre” at La “Place du Tertre”, attending the Art Salons or, to frequent the Louvre’s corridors studying Art from the masters. Paris, “la ville des lumières” (the city of the lights) had a profound and definitive impact on who he is now as artist.
He followed a path that brought him to Washington and Chicago for exhibitions in 1991/92.
…Art is a self expression and doesn't need explanations… nevertheless, his hands and his eyes are the Art instruments enslaved to his mind, which capture the essence of his soul bringing you an unique Abstract Surrealistic Impressionism experience. You will be guided to different dimensions by the light and thick brush strokes married to the rich palette knife texture leading to the brightness of an outstanding symphony of colors.
Monitored by the mirror of his imagination, Jean Marcellin captures the movement of his colors in the inertia of the strict minimalist lines to create an unique design set of expressions.
His words:
“The secret is in the light, I like to capture it.”
”I mix the colors for the pleasure of your eyes and I create forms to surprise your imagination.”
“I like to put a smiling face on everybody who looks at my paintings, at least a reaction of surprise or a question mark.”
“I cannot really paint the past or the future. I paint the instant, like a footprint of the present moment.”
“I still don’t know why, but Art is my way of expression from the time I touched a pencil and gouache paints. It is when I mixed the colors that the magic began, a bigger magic took place when I came into contact with oil paints.
“I only use acrylic paints for walls.”
“Sometimes, when I think about my childhood, painting was my only friend, and when I think about my future, painting will be my last friend.”
"When I paint, it is like a walk on a string from the white canvas to the final brush touch, to the final deliverance of my mind."
“ You will be guided to a different dimension by the light and thick brush strokes married to the rich palette knife texture leading to the brightness of an outstanding symphony of colors. “
“A creation of a painting is a fantastic journey in the expressions of art. “
“My paintings are a world of Abstract Surrealistic Impressionism themes posing on backgrounds of rich colors structured with strict minimalist lines.”
“ I have hard time to imagine my paintings living in my buyers places and I am so curious about it.”
“Any time I do not paint, it’s a new painting added to the book of the lost paintings.”
